All doctors will be asked to apply to the national FP vacancy. This will be done through the Oriel website.
You don’t have to, but you can also apply for the academic foundation program (AFP) – a maximum of 2 AFP AUoA (Unit of Application) vacancies.
The AFP not only focuses on clinical training but also on research, teaching and leadership/management skills. These spots are highly competitive and allocated to the doctors that score high in their EPM and SJT .
Remember to apply within the deadline period! The UKFPO is very strict when it comes to deadlines.
Once you have applied, you won’t be able to cancel your AFP application.
If you are successful, you will receive a AFP Offer in advance, before the FP allocation process. If you accept this offer, you will not be allocated to the FP process.
If you decline the AFP offer or are unsuccessful, you will automatically be included in the FP pool.
If you are allocated to a FP position but you decline this as well, then you will be withdrawn from the entire process and will need to apply the next year.
The FP allocation process when all candidates have been allocated to a UoA. The top scoring doctors will be allocated first, so if there are more candidates than seats, make sure you don’t end up in the low scoring section!
Applicants that have not been matched will be allocated will be placed on the reserve list and allocated to a UoAs and will be allocated a FP if other candidates withdraw from the process.
